AFRICA : Start of routine malaria vaccinations across 42 health districts

LIBREVILLE, January 22 (Infosplusgabon) - Following a successful pilot programme, today the world’s first WHO-recommended malaria vaccines are being administered through routine immunisation programmes across Africa, beginning with Cameroon. Vaccinations are taking place across 42 health districts, chosen in order to give the most vulnerable children with the highest transmission and mortality rates in the country an opportunity to be protected from the devastating disease.

Africa : African Development Bank appoints Aida Ndir Ngom as Director of the Private Sector Development Department

LIBREVILLE, January 21 (Infosplusgabon) -  The African Development Bank has appointed Aida Ngir Ngom as Director, Private Sector Development Department. Her appointment takes effect from February 1, 2024.  Ngom, a Senegalese national, is a seasoned development finance banker with more than 20 years of experience in private sector origination and development, investment banking, and corporate and project finance, notably in the infrastructure space.

Cameroon: African Development Bank grants a loan of EUR 74 million for electricity sector reforms to facilitate universal access to power

LIBREVILLE, December 15 (Infosplusgabon) - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group approved a loan of EUR 74.25 million to Cameroon in Abidjan on 14 December 2023 to implement the first phase of the Electricity Sector Recovery Support Programme (PARSEC). The programme will support the Cameroonian government to implement the reforms necessary in the energy sector in 2024 and 2025 so that, in the long term, the country can produce enough electricity to cover its national requirements of 5,000 megawatts and build a reserve to export energy to neighbouring countries, particularly Chad.
