South Africa opposition calls for public grilling of Zuma, son

Cape Town, South Africa, January 26 (Infosplusgabon) -  The official opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) on Friday said it is imperative that Jacob Zuma and his son Duduzane must testify at the state capture inquiry which was confirmed this week.

The terms for the inquiry, which were published and released in the Government Gazette on Thursday, call for an inquiry to investigate all forms of government corruption, including allegations against the President, his Cabinet ministers, the Gupta family and state-owned entities.

The DA said it was time for Zuma and those close to him be held accountable to the public. "For years, President Zuma has been trying to frustrate efforts to hold him accountable," said DA MP Glynnis Breytenbach. She said the commission is expected to have Zuma and his son Duduzane Zuma summoned to testify “as they too have been directly implicated”.

Duduzane was employed by the wealthy Indian Gupta family which managed to secure numerous multi-billion dollar government contracts, allegedly because of their ties to the President and some Cabinet members.

"For too long the Gupta family has had a stranglehold over the South African government, and particularly over President Zuma,” Breytenbach added.

Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela completed her investigation into the so-called "State Capture" scandal in 2016 but Zuma has repeatedly used the courts to try and prevent the release of her report and having the recommendations implemented.
