Tripoli, Libya, December 9 (Infosplusgabon) - Delegates from the House of Representatives and the State High Council, a consultative assembly, reaffirmed their commitment to "Libyan ownership" of the political process and talks according to the mechanisms stipulated in the Political Agreement and Security Council resolutions.

This was contained in a communiqué issued on Tuesday evening by the Libyan dialogue team in Tangier, Morocco, composed of delegations from the House of Representatives and the High Council of State (13+13), at the end of the second round of their political consultations.

The delegates stressed the need to intensify direct meetings and adopt them as an effective and transparent way to address the problems that hinder the unification of state institutions and to put an end to the state of division and the cessation of external interference.

Libyan parliamentarians reaffirmed their commitment to the construction of a civil state and the need to extend the authority of the state over the whole country and to initiate national reconciliation, transitional justice and the return of internally and externally displaced persons in dignity and security, with the right of all affected persons to obtain reparations and prosecution in accordance with the law.

In their document, they stressed support for the efforts of the United Nations Mission of Support in Libya (UNSMIL) to end the conflict and division in Libya, which will lead to the implementation of constitutional agendas and the holding of general elections.

The Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, organised under the auspices of the United Nations from 9-15 November in Tunis, led to the adoption of a roadmap that includes the determination of a transition phase and the organization of general elections on 24 December, 2021.

This political dialogue, which is currently being held by videoconference, faces the challenge over the establishment of criteria for the selection of personalities to occupy positions within the new executive authority, the Chairman of the Presidential Council and the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity.
