Tunisian NGO denounces return of slavery in Libya

Tunis, Tunisia, November 21 (Infosplusgabon) - Tunisian NGO, forum for economic and social rights, has denounced the situation of migrants in Libya and the return of slavery in several cities with the organisation of public autions of sub-Saharan migrants.

 

In a communique issued on Monday, the forum asked civil society organisations and democratic forces in Tunisia and the world to take action against those humiliating practices, and urged the Tunisian government to take action with regard to the phenomenon in neighbouring Libya.

 

A report telecast by the American TV channel CNN highlighted the public aution of African migrants. The report has aroused fierce reactions in Africa and within the United Nations.

 

Niamey on Sunday summoned the Libyan ambassador in Niger to express "the sad feeling" of president Mahamadou Issoufou regarding the sale of migrants in Libya like slaves.
