GABORONE, Botswana, September 21 (Infosplusgabon) -  Botswana’s e-government portals are experiencing perennial hiccups, authorities announced on Thursday. Oteng Mokowe, the Transport and Communications ministry spokesperson, said information technology services in the government data network (GDN) have been experiencing prolonged technical faults.

“The department of information technology has been working around the clock to address this,” Mokowe said.

The department facilitates and administers information and communication technology services across the public sector and also provides website hosting for government, e-mail connectivity and internet access.

He said though the network has been stabilized, the public may continue to experience slow services for some time.

“However, efforts are ongoing to resolve the faults and restore the services to full levels as soon as possible.”

Early this year, Botswana expressed fears over wannacry computer virus and its threat to cause considerable damage to the government data network.

As a precaution, government ICT department took an initiative to shut down its internet services and systems for a week because eight services on its platform were vulnerable to attack.

Wannacry has affected several countries around the world.
