Rabat, Morocco,September 12 (Infosplusgabon) - The Moroccan and Ivorian parliaments signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Rabat on Wednesday to develop and institutionalise bilateral parliamentary cooperation and promote greater coordination between two legislative institutions.

Under the MoU, both sides commit to contribute, within their powers, to the strengthening of political, economic, cultural and scientific ties between their countries.

The MoU was signed by the Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives, Habib El Malki, and the Speaker of the Ivorian National Assembly, Amadou Soumahoro.

The MoU said the two parliaments will work together to exchange parliamentary visits and hold bilateral meetings to facilitate interactions in mutually agreed areas.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen the exchange of views and consultation at all levels, bilateral, continental and multilateral.

Mr. El Malki stressed that the memorandum opened a new era for parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

In this regard, he stressed the leading role played by the two parliamentary friendship groups, saying that future joint initiatives will have to give new impetus to Moroccan-Ivorian relations and to raise cooperation in the parliamentary field.

Soumahoro, for his part, hailed the quality of relations between Rabat and Yamoussoukro, which he described as "solid, deep and historic", indicating that these relations cover areas as varied as education, health, economy, trade, tourism and housing.

The signing of MoU in the parliamentary field, he concluded, thus reflects the excellence and depth of political and economic relations between the two countries.
