Bamako, Mali, August 20 (Infosplusgabon) - Grain markets in Mali experienced slight price fluctuations in last week, according to a statement obtained  from agricultural markets on Tuesday.

Due to the Tabaski celebration on 11 August, the weekly markets and the transportation of cereals to major cities, prices were slightly disrupted but, according to the statement, this had no significant impact on the price evolution.

The document pointed out that, as in previous periods, price stability with occasional fluctuations in some areas, is still observed in cereal markets.

During this period, grain stocks on the market have fully covered demand across the country.

For example, compared to the previous week, prices in Bamako district remained largely stable. The current retail prices were CFAF 175 per kilo for maize, CFAF 200 for millet and shorgo, CFAF 250 for millet, sorghum, maize crushed, CFAF 375 for imported rice, rice RM 40 Thai and Vietnamese and for local Gambiaka rice, 400 CFAF for cowpea and 500 CFAF per kilo for fonio.

Retailers bought a kg of maize at 200 CFAF in Kayes (West), 250 CFAF for millet and the sorghum / corn pounded, against 250 CFAF for sorghum. Still in the Cité des rails a kg of imported broken rice and milled millet cost 350 CFAF, as against 600 CFAF for cowpea and a kilo of fonio.

The same trends were observed in the markets of several localities of the country.

At the beginning of winter, farmers have less concern about the price of feed-based cottonseed which remained stable compared to the previous week.

Prices varied between 5,500 CFAF and 9,000 CFAF for bags of 40 and 50 kg. On the other hand, a bag of 50 kg of livestock feed of the same type was selling at 7,500 CFAF in Bamako and Koulikoro-Ba and Sikasso (south). The same amount cost 8,500 CFAF in Segou (central) but the price of 40kg was 6750 CFAF in Mopti dike (central), 7,500 CFAF in Gao (north) against 8,000 CFAF in Timbuktu (north).
