Tripoli, Libya, August 15 (Infosplusgabon) - Activities at the Maitigua Airport, in the eastern suburb of Tripoli and the only one serving the city, resumed on Thursday after announcing the reopening of its closed airspace on Wednesday night following a bomb attack that resulted in a death and injuries among ground staff.

In a statement released on Thursday, the airport management said the carriers have begun to receive passengers on regular flights to and from Maitiga International Airport after receiving permission from the relevant authorities.

The statement confirmed that the bombardment resulted in the death of one Ahmed Ferjani and injury to others.

The management team of Maitigua airport announced on Wednesday night that the airport was the target of several missiles that forced an Afriqiyah Airways plane to land at Misrata International Airport (220 km east of Tripoli) and to close the airspace of the airport until further notice.

Since the military offensive launched on April 4 by Marshal Khalifa Haftar's troops to take control of Tripoli, Maitigua Airport has often been the target of air strikes or rocket fire almost daily, causing the suspension of air navigation in this vital airport facility for the inhabitants of the capital.
