Cairo, Egypt, July 11 (Infosplusgabon) - Nigeria scored in the final minutes in their quarter-final match against South Africa in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament on Thursday to win 2-1 and reach the semi-final.
There was drama in the 71st minute when VAR awarded South Africa the equaliser after Bongani Zungu's headed goal was initially ruled off-side in the match played at the Cairo International Stadium.
But the VAR, which was introduced from the quarter-final stage, ruled it a good goal, and therefore cancelled the 27th minute goal by Samuel Chukwueze that put the Nigerians in the lead.
Nigeria then launched a series of attacks and were rewarded in the 89th minute when William Troost-Ekong connected home a corner kick and therefore avoid extra time.
Nigeria join Senegal who earlier in the day saw off Benin 1-0.
Nigeria will meet the winner of Cote d'Ivoire/Algeria encounter.
