Tunis, Tunisia, July 11 (Infosplusgabon) - About a million people in Tunisia do not benefit from free health insurance, the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Tunisia, Yves Souteyrand, said Wednesday.
Souteyrand said in a statement to the press that 38 to 40% of health expenditure is paid directly by the citizen and called for the need to invest in the health sector.
A study by the research and social studies center of the Ministry of Health revealed that 17.2% of the total Tunisian population (about 11,295 million people) do not benefit from social and health coverage.
The study, published on May 9 at a national conference in Tunis, had indicated the deterioration in the level of health services provided by public health institutions.
