Khartoum, Sudan, May 19 (Infosplusgabon) – Eritrea on Sunday sent its Minister for foreign Affairs, Osman Salih, to get first hand information about the recent developments in the Sudan, the first such visit in as many years.

The President of Sudan’s Transitional Military Council (TMC), Lieutenant General Abdul-Fatah Al-Burhan  received the Eritrean minister inside the Republican palace in Khartoum, the first since president Omar Bashir was overthrown in April.

The minister described his meeting with Lt. Gen. Al-Burhan as “fruitful and constructive”, adding that his visit to  Khartoum comes in the context Eritrea’s desire to get acquainted with developments in Sudan and the progress of negotiations between the TMC and the Forces of Declaration of Freedom and Change.

He said that the meeting also discussed the  agreement concluded between his country and Ethiopia as well as the cooperation with Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia, which helped push forwars the economic and social ties among  the three nations.

He has expressed hope that the process of change in Sudan would help in cementing  relations between Eritrea and Sudan.

Tension was running high between Sudan and Eritrea, especially during the last months of Bashir in power, when he charged that military buildup was observed on the other side of the border with Eritrea.

In fact borders were closed and massive troops were sent to the area of Kasala, near the border with Eritrea.

But observers believe it had to do with the

Sudanese rapproachment with Qatar and Turkey. Today Sudan's military council has started strong contacts with the UAE, the strong ally of Eritrea.
