Ivorian mining sector records 582.3 billion CFA Francs turnover in 2018

Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, April 11 (Infosplusgabon) - The Ivorian mining sector, excluding oil and gas extraction, generated a turnover of 582.3 billion CFA Francs (US$1,000,399,800) in 2018 compared with 539 billion CFA Francs  (US$ 926,487,100) in 2017, representing an increase of 8.02 per cent, an official source said.

The sector benefited from a total investment of 268 billion CFA Francs (US $460,665,200), while tax revenues amounted to 65.84 billion CFA Francs ( US$ 111,728,500), compared with 56.44 billion CFA Francs in 2017 ( US$96,258,400), representing an increase of 16.65 percent.

 

In addition, the number of jobs generated  by the sector increased by 26.63 percent, representing 13,327 direct jobs against 10,524 in 2017.

 

However, if the base metals production was on the rise, that of gold was slightly declining.

 

Indeed, the industrial production of gold, for 2018 was 24.5 tonnes, representing a decrease of 3.57% compared to 2017.

 

In quarry substances, the production of crushed materials was 5.7 million tonnes in 2018, compared with 3.7 million tonnes in 2017, representing an increase of 59.77 percent.

 

The declared production of lagoon sand was  368,179 m3 against 955,706 m3 in 2017.

 

This production was down by 61.48%, mainly due to the ban on the extraction of lagoon sand in some communes of the autonomous district of Abidjan.
